Folding Utility Trailers
Utility trailers are great tools for transporting goods. They have several advantages over motorized vehicles, like trucks and vans. First of all, they’re much cheaper, which can be a deciding factor for some people. Second, they are versatile, being able to change almost any car or vehicle into a freight vehicles. Finally, they need much less maintenance. And like any other vehicle, they can be bought used as long as they’re in working conditions, or sold for a salvage price at the end of their useful life.
There is just one disadvantage of utility trailers that really decreases their popularity. They use up a lot of storage space. This is not a problem for companies that have warehouses, but the rest of us have to store ours in our garages. Small ones can placed on their side in order to make them occupy less space. However, this is a safety risk, as it can fall over a person, a child or a car. Big ones and specially enclosed ones can’t do that, and they are usually big enough to take up a car’s space in a garage. We could leave them outside in the garage, but that will damage them over time, specially if they have wooden beds. In addition, if you have children, they will try to use it as a toy and may hurt themselves with it.
Seeing this problem, manufacturers have designed folding utility trailers. Folding utility trailers are utility trailers that collapse on themselves in one way or another, reducing greatly the space they need for storage. Since the biggest drawback of regular utility trailers is the space they need, folding utility trailers are much more practical for people that need one but don’t have the space to store them.
There are several ways that folding utility trailers work, but most of them can be divided in two categories.
The first one reduced the width of a utility trailer. Folding utility trailers of this kind have a bed that collapses on itself, usually pushing the central axis upwards and the sides of the trailer downwards. These folding utility trailers take little space, almost like trailers that have been put on their sides, but without the risk of falling.
The second type of folding utility trailers reduced the height of the trailer. These models are aimed at people who need utility trailers with walls or even a roof. In these models the walls collapse on the bed of the trailer. While this type of folding utility trailers still occupies the same surface, it requires much less volume and objects can be stored on top of it.
