Folding Utility Trailer
While transportation of materials is usually left to the experts or to people who work in construction or some other industry, sometimes we find ourselves on the need of transporting heavy objects from a place to another. Sometimes we have to call a freight company, but the minimum amount they ask is not worth it. We would use our cars, but we can’t fit certain objects on them, and it can be dangerous to put them on the roof.
Some people resort to buying utility trailers. They certainly get the job done and are much more cheaper than pick up trucks and tractors. However, there is one disadvantage to utility trailers. They take up a lot of space, and unless you have a job that requires you to handle materials or equipment, the utility trailer will spend a lot of time in the garage or the backyard.
If you store it in the garage, it’ll most likely obstruct enough space to keep one car from parking there, which is a very huge disadvantage. Some people make their utility trailers stand on their side, which allows for more space but can be a safety hazard or can damage the car if it falls on it. Another option is to leave it in the backyard, but then it won’t be protected from the sun and the weather. Cold winters are specially damaging to utility trailers, and even more so to utility trailers that have wooden beds.
Seeing this problem, manufacturers have come up with folding utility trailers. Like their name implies, folding utility trailers fold upon themselves in one of several ways. In this way, folding utility trailers can be stored in a much narrower space, eliminating the main disadvantage of regular utility trailers.
There are two main types of folding utility trailers. The fist one is the folding utility trailer that has a folding bed, which collapse on itself on an upside down “V” form. In this way, its width is greatly reduced and it can be stored much more easily.
The other type of folding utility trailer has walls that collapse on the bed. This model works better for enclosed models or models that have tall walls. This folding utility trailer doesn’t get a reduction in width, but in height. While it still occupies the same surface, the volume area is almost eliminated, and other objects can easily be stored on top of it.
A folding utility trailer is usually more expensive than a regular one. However, it makes up for it with easiness of storage, and when you don’t own a big warehouse, that’s a big advantage.
